Uhlsport was formed in 1948 by Karl Uhl the Uhlsport history began in the small town Balingen in the Southwest of Germany, when the Uhlsport founder Karl Uhl cobbled his first leather studs.

Uhlsport was originally a company which specialised just for goalkeepers and has now become a brand which specialises in all areas of football. 

Uli Stein who played for HSV, become the first goalkeeper to lift the European Cup wearing Uhlsport gloves, the game was against Juventus in Turin in 1987. At Italia 90 Bodo Illgner become World Champion wearing Uhlsport goalkeeper gloves with Germany. In the 2010 World Cup for the first time all Uhlsport endorsed goalkeepers played with an identical model of goalkeeper gloves to draw attention to their social campaign "SOS Children´s Villages of South Africa". At the time Uhlsport endorsed keeper Pepe Reina became World Cup winner with the Spanish national team. In 2012 for the second time all the Uhlsport wearing goalkeepers at the European Championships wore the same model of goalkeeper gloves to increase awareness of the Robert-Enke-Foundation.
